Well, let's just say I'm a naturally curious person, and I think a lot of you may be interested in the answers to these very curious questions also...So, can I count on your response??? 1) When's your name/sex? 2) When's your birthday? 3) Where do you live (limit to city and state/country)? 4) Do you use a computer at work, school or home? 5) If still in college, what school do you attend? 6) Can you think of one interesting bit of trivia you may know about Yes (etc...), that you think others might not know? 7) If I asked you to rank your three (3) favorite Yes albums, what would they be? 8) Yes songs? 9) If we were to have a vote for a name for this newsletter, what would be your suggestion? 10) What are your other favorite groups (please limit to 3)? 11) Any other bit of info you'd like to share? To get the ball rolling, I'll start: 1) My name's Catherine Leak, I'm female. 2) My birthday is January 27, 1969. I'm an Aquarius, and will turn 22 in a little more than 2 months! 3) I'm from Syracuse, NY 4) I work on the computers at school 5) I'm a senior at the state university at Buffalo 6) Phil Collins auditioned to be Yes' new drummer when Bill left 7) Going for the One, Tales..., Fragile 8) "I've Seen All Good People", "Turn of the Century", "Wonderous Stories" 9) How about Nous Somme du Soleil 10) Genesis, Phil Collins, Jon & Vangelis 11) I've been listening to Yes since 1983, with 90125. What hooked me, though, was the song "Wonderous Stories" which I first heard on Classic Yes. * * * * * * * * * * NEWS: ==== From: IN%"STOREYR@Venus.YCC.Yale.Edu" Caroline Records has released Bruford's two albums with Patrick Moraz domestically on Disc. In addition, the other two UK albums (without Bill) have been released too. I think of them as sort of essential so take what you will. -Ross Storey * * * * * * * * * * RUMORS: ====== Welcome to the Rumor Bin, where you can read about all the rumors that are currently floating around concerning Yes... Upon compiling these, I realized that we have our very own rumor- monger in our midst, in the form of one Rick Meyer. You will notice that most of the following are from him: From: IN%"jtull@unix.cis.pitt.EDU" "Richard A Meyer" ------------------------------------------------------- I heard that the new ABWH album will be out in January. Also, they are to begin touring in DECEMBER. From what I was told, according to Wondrous Stories, ABWH will now be called YES. I haven't seen this, so I can't verify it, but that is what I was told. I was told that Bill Bruford said he refused to join ABWH if Chris Squire was going to be in it. Apparently he doesn't like him as a person or as a musician. So, if Chris joins, then Bill will most likely quit. Supposedly someone who is friends with Chris Squire and Jon Anderson got them together and made them make up. They did. They then agreed to do something together. I'm not sure what. This much of the story supposedly aired on a Philly. radio station. The next part supposedly came from the head of the Wondrous Stories fan club. Yes are currently trying to weed through the legal mess of a every member ever in YES tour. This was validified by her. My friend Supposedly, this tour would be accompanied by a boxed set. Also, I had heard this rumor about 1 year ago, and was told it again today, by a different source. Supposedly if Yes gets back together and does a tour ELP will be the opening act. Currently, Karl Palmer is tied up with Asia, so if this happens I wouldn't expect him in it. Maybe Cozy Powell. Also, the rumor with Roger Hodgeson, apparently that has become just a Trevor and Roger deal, Chris and Alan are not involved with them any more. --- --- --- Originally posted to news: From: savvy@brahms.udel.edu (Michael S Savett) Subject: Boxed sets (Yes?) Date: 15 Nov 90 18:10:55 GMT I heard on a Philadelphia radio station that Jon Anderson and Chris Squire were working together to put together material for a Yes boxed set. Jon and Chris said it, so this is straight from the horses mouth, but there is no word on a possible release date. I, for one, am surprised to hear them working together, given the split between ABWH and Yes, but I suppose we'll see the results soon! * * * * * * * * * * DISCOGRAPHY??? ============== The NOT-YES Collection: Part I At the request of our beloved Yes-Goddess Cathy, I have compiled the following list of solo albums by all the Yes-men. As far as I know, this list is complete with the exception of Rick Wakeman and Patrick Moraz. Rick has 25 solo efforts all together, and I came up with only 21 (maybe someone can help with the ones I missed?). Patrick has a lot of stuff out; I'm not sure if I've included everything here. To make it easier for all you collectors out there, I've included some notations about the availability of the CDs. If there is no notation following a title, then I haven't seen it on disc (this doesn't mean it's not out on disc, just that I haven't seen it). Some of the discs are import-only, and *very* expensive (up to $35.00!), so I also mentioned whether it is an import or not. Jon Anderson - Animation - In The City Of Angels *CD* - Olias Of Sunhillow *import CD* - Song Of Seven *import CD* - 3 Ships *import CD* Peter Banks - Two Sides of Peter Banks Bill Bruford - Feels Good To Me *CD* - Gradually Going Tornado *CD* - Master Strokes (1978-1985) (compilation) *CD* - One Of A Kind *CD* - The Bruford Tapes - (Live) *CD* Bill Bruford's Earthworks - Earthworks *CD* - Dig? *CD* Steve Howe - Beginnings *import CD* - (The) Steve Howe Album *import CD* Jon & Vangelis - (The) Best of Jon & Vangelis - (The) Friends Of Mr. Cairo *CD* - Private Collection *CD* - Short Stories *CD* Patrick Moraz - Patrick Moraz - Coexistence - Future Memories - Future Memories II - Human Interface - I - Out In The Sun - Timecode Patrick Moraz & Bill Bruford - Music for Piano and Drums Trevor Rabin - Trevor Rabin - Rabbit (?) - Face to Face - Can't Look Away *CD* Chris Squire - Fish Out Of Water *import CD* Rick Wakeman - A Suite Of Gods *CD* - Cost Of Living - Country Airs *import CD* - Crimes of Passion (soundtrack) - Criminal Record *import CD* - (The) Family Album *CD* - (The) Gospels - Journey To The Centre Of The Earth *CD* - Live - Live At Hammersmith *import CD* - (The) Myths And Legends Of King *CD* Arthur And The Knights Of The Round Table - No Earthly Connection - Rhapsodies *import CD* - Rock 'N' Roll Prophet - Sea Airs *import CD* - Silent Nights *import CD* - (The) Six Wives Of Henry VIII *CD* - Time Machine *import CD* - White Rock - Zodiaque *CD* - 1984 Alan White - Ramshackled *import CD* I hope this helps quench everybody's thirst for more material by our favorite musicians. I encourage you to send comments, suggestions, criticism (constructive only), and questions to my e-mail address, which is: borellms@clutx.clarkson.edu (internet) or borellms@clutx.bitnet (bitnet) Please send mail directly to me, not Cathy, because she has enough to do and if there are any major corrections or additions, I'd like to know! Next Time: The NOT-YES Collection part 2 will be a list of albums of other bands that members of Yes have been in or are currently in. Sure, this will probably be pretty long, but what the heck... Enjoy, Mike Borella * * * * * * * * * * QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS AND MORE QUESTIONS... ========================================== Here are a few questions that have been addressed by readers: From: IN%"mbf!dave@sunkist.West.Sun.COM" ------------------------------------------ I would like to know if you can still get the Roger Dean Yes album cover posters anymore. They were available all over the country, 10 years ago. They were distributed in the U.S. by "Big-O-Posters", which doesn't exist anymore to the best of my knowledge. Any ideas? From: IN%"joep@cbmvax.cbm.commodore.COM" ------------------------------------------ While we're talking about Jon, anybody have any thoughts on In High Places from Mike Oldfield's album Crises? Jon did the vocals. From: IN%"dmarkfie@indymed.bitnet" __________________________________ Question: Is Tony Levin staying with ABWH? Also does anyone know did the guys from Yes Magazine just drop off the face of the earth or what? Also is it possible for all of us to get a complete (and I do mean complete) discography together. It would include such fun rarities as Both Sides of Peter Banks and Run with the Fox etc...(editor's note: a starting draft is included in this issue) Thoughts? * * * * * * * * * * CAGE OF FREEDOM: ================ Thanks to everyone who took the time to mail their responses to the question about the song "Cage of Freedom" that was posted in the last letter. This song comes from the soundtrack to the movie "Metropolis", a remake of a classic silent movie, and released in either 1984 or 1985. The soundtrack, by Georgio Morodor, included songs performed by artists such as Bonnie Tyler, Freddie Mercury, Billy Squire, Pat Benetar and Jon Anderson. Most people who voiced an opinion on the movie and the song in question, gave their two thumbs up. It is unclear whether the soundtrack is available on disc. (some say yes, others say no... anyone OWN this on disc??) * * * * * * * * * * PUBLICATIONS: ============= Here's that list of Yes publications that I promised... Wonderous Stories P.O. OK, I'll tell you what I need before you go committing yourself...I think the easiest way to get the lyrics on-line is if someone else can be in charge of them. This includes collecting the lyrics and keeping them on-file, so that you can mail them to those who are interested. I don't have the time or the capacity to take care of this too...so now's your chance to get involved! Let me know if you're willing to accept this challenge! * * * * * * * * * * Well, it seems like I've reached the end once more...another update on membership: we have crossed the 100 mark; the newsletter is currently being mailed to 109 readers. And they keep coming!?! Thanks for everything: the contributions, the answers, the input, the suggestions, the thanks, the continuing interest, etc, etc... Keep these coming too! To those of you state-side: have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends, don't eat TOO much turkey, and make sure to play some traditional turkey-day football...and give thanks for all the wonderful things that have touched your lives--this IS a day for thankfulness and optimism... And to the others who read this newsletter, but don't happen to celebrate our Thanksgiving: follow the above wishes anyway, and treat everyday as if it were Thanksgiving...that's how life was meant to be lived.
