I'm going to call tomorrow to reserve my three tickets! Does anybody have any more information about this solo tour of Jon's? I thought Yes was currently recording their next album...? Well, all I know is that I'm psyched!! (: * * * * * * * * * * MORE ON ANDERSON SOLO TOUR ========================== From: IN%"AACUNZO@ccmail.sunysb.edu" "FISHBOY" Hey everybody, I have some good news and some bad news. First the good news - Jon Anderson is going out on a solo tour. The bad news is that he's only playing ONE date in the U.S. Anyway, here's the info I got yesterday on a postcard from Yes Magazine: JON ANDERSON of YES premiers his upcoming solo tour Saturday, March 27, 1993 The Raymond Theater, 129 N. Raymond Avenue, Pasadena, CA 8:30 p.m. General tickets go on sale to the public on March 18th. Maximum of 4 tickets per person. The rest of the postcard was info regarding special VIP tickets, but this offer is only for subscribers to Yes Magazine, so I wouldn't feel right spreading it to hundreds of people over the net. Anyway, I read the whole postcard and get quite excited, not because I could attend this concert, but because I figure, hey, I live 50 miles from New york City, and he'll HAVE to come to New York City if he's touring. Then I notice on the front of the card, on the address label, are the words "This is the only U.S. show!" Bummer. He doesn't have a new solo album coming out, does he? Could this mean that the new Yes album is finished and he has some time off, so he's going out on tour? Then again, maybe Yes didn't even start recording yet, or maybe they broke up. Who knows. I hope this info is useful to any southern Californians, and if you go to the show, be sure to post a detailed review and setlist. :) Andy Acunzo * * * * * * * * * * JON ALBUM INFO ============== From: IN%"miketi@microsoft.com" "Mike Tiano" ....the only North American date will be a preview party in Pasadena, CA, next week which includes special tickets to party with Jon after the show. Otherwise he'll be touring South America in support of a new, Latin based solo album (which, according to Yes management, may have 'Castenada' in the title), but there are no plans to play anywhere else at this time. * * * * * * * * * * EARTHWORKS ON TV? ================= From: IN%"stelzer@ocf.Berkeley.EDU" "Chris Stelzer" Greetings, music lovers, I was channel surfing the other day and happened to stop at MTV. OK, it was House of Style, and Cindy Crawford was on... But anyway, they were showing some fashions or something and actually played a few seconds from "Stromboli Kicks" (off _Dig?_) as part of the soundtrack... When can we expect the video, Bill?? ;-) * * * * * * * * * * JON AND KITARO HELP =================== From: IN%"wcsanil@ccs.carleton.ca" "Anil Prasad" Sorry to litter the list with this... Could the guy from Compu$erve with the Jon & Kitaro tapes, PLEASE get ahold of me. For some reason my mail isn't making it to your account... Thanks, * * * * * * * * * * RUMOR ===== From: IN%"07822@chopin.udel.edu" "Jeremy Weissenburger" My roommate heard a rumor that the new album was due out April 19 or the 26th. Guess what he said it's supposed to be called? Dialogue. This makes me a little on the suspicious side, but it makes sense. Dialogue was the proposed title for the second ABWH album. Does this mean we could hear some alternate versions of the ABWH II Demos? One can only wonder... * * * * * * * * * * ASIA AND HOWE ============= From: IN%"bill@verdix.com" "Bill Spencer" I seem to remember a comment by Howe: "Sometimes I wish I could just play an ES-335 and a Vibrolux in a pub." Or something like that. Don't overlook the possibility that Howe is with Asia partially for his own enjoyment (on the good days). * * * * * * * * * * WHERE'S MORAZ? ============== From: IN%"Gregory.D.Wadlinger@Dartmouth.EDU" My question is: Does anyone know what Patrick Moraz is up to these days? I still consider "Relayer" to be the most amazing work by any contemporary group in any category I have ever heard, and I attribute a lot of this to Moraz' work on keyboards. I know he came out with something called "The Story of i". I just have not heard anything since. Btw, I still think the various artists who have made up Yes over the years rise above the madding throng of groups in both talent and execution of the music, but I have not heard anything lately to thrill me like Relayer and Close to the Edge, my two all-time favorites. * * * * * * * * * * ASIA COMMENT/WAKEMAN QUESTION ============================= From: IN%"BOUTAME@YaleVM.YCC.Yale.Edu" "Tamar Boursalian" Hi, All! OK, this is sort of Yes-related. I went to the Asia show in New Haven, CT, a couple of weeks ago, and I'll admit that I was one of the people who went only because Steve Howe was playing with them. But I must say, I really enjoyed the show. I think John Payne is a really good singer, but would someone tell him to get rid of that ridiculous top hat and all those rings! He looks like he should be a member of Spinal Tap! Of course I mean that only in the best, most postitive way, as I only have the utmost respect for Nigel Tuffnel and gang. This is definitley Yes-related: I saw a couple of Rick Wakeman albums in the used bin at a local store. I can't remember which ones they were now, but can anyone recommend which are the good ones, and which (if any) I should definitely stay away from? [Ed. - Please send your opinions to Tamar, not Notes, Thanks.] * * * * * * * * * * ABWH LIVE CD'S ============== From: IN%"wcsanil@ccs.carleton.ca" "Anil Prasad" Can someone tell me what ABWH bootleg CDs there are out there? I know of: Incas Valley 1989 European Tour After The Hurricane Supposedly, there's a double CD Japanese ABWH boot as well. If ya know of anything, lemme know! Thanks, * * * * * * * * * * YESSHOWS ======== From: IN%"V1180G@TEMPLEVM.BITNET" "Rob Petrone" Hey! I happened to be looking at the Yes family tree from the Yesyears boxed set the other day, and noticed that the tree lists the Trevor Horn era Yes lineup for Drama (of course) and for Yesshows (which raised my brow...) I said, wait a minute...and checked the release dates of the albums which also appears in the boxed set booklet. It listed June (or July--one of those "J" months) of 1980 as the release date of Drama, and *November* of 1980 as the release date of Yesshows. I said, "HOLD ON! (No pun intended) Could it possibly be that Yesshows is a live album from the Drama tour and I NEVER REALIZED IT?" But then I remembered that there are no Drama songs on Yesshows and I distinctly remember it being Anderson that thanks the world for the stage crew, the light fixtures, and everything else under the sun... So I popped in my tape of Yesshows and was relieved to find that I'm not losing brain cells. That's Anderson, all right. I don't understand WHY Yes would release a live album from the Tormato tour five months after Drama came out--especially since the lineup changed! That struck me as so strange. Why not wait till the Drama tour is over (how long could that have taken? Another couple of months, for heaven's sake?) and *then* release a live album of the Drama tour with the new lineup! *That* would have been more interesting! What gives? Why did Yes do what they did? And while we're on the topic of Trevor Horn, does anyone have the liner notes to /Living in the Age of Plastic/ which they would be kind enough to transcribe and send? Regards from the City of (Brotherly) Love, Rob Petrone * * * * * * * * * * ALAN WHITE NEWS =============== "Alan White recently visited Microsoft to discuss Yes past and present, and about how they're recording their next lp directly to hard disk. Mike Tiano, longtime Yeshead and a contributor to YESOTERIC, promises to have an article in the next NFTE detailing the highlights." Mike * * * * * * * * * * WAKEMAN NEWS ============ From: IN%"borella@cs.ucdavis.edu" "Mike Borella" >From Rick Wakeman's Management: European tour dates: March 24th: Mont Pelier March 25th: Grenoble March 26th: Paris March 28th: Osnabruek March 29th: Frankfurt March 30th: Cologne April 1st: Stuttgart April 2nd: Halle April 4th: Bremen April 5th: Hannover April 6th: Berlin Rick's President label is planning on releasing *everything* Rick has ever recorded on CD. This won't mean a lot of re-issues, but instead it will mainly consist of his newer, more obscure releases that never got any distribution. He is currently working on his "first serious classical piano work" entitled "The Heritage Suite". It is written in the late Nineteenth - early Twentieth European style and is supposedly so difficult to play that Rick has had to practice for it. Adam Wakeman's first album is called "Soliloquy" and is due out April 19th, and included session work from Tony Fernandez. Adam and Rick plan on doing another Wakeman with Wakeman tour in which the first third is Adam's band, the second Rick's band, and the finale with Adam and Rick. All of Rick's releases from now on will be transposed and the sheet music will be made available. No further word on older stuff however. Rick may be teaming up with Fish (not Chris Squire - ex-Marillion Fish) to record in the near future. The plan on a tour together in early '94. By mid April Rick will be back in the studio. One of the projects he will be finishing up is the "Wakeman plays Yes" ( <- that's not a title!) album of Rick covering the band's older material. Should be interesting. Let's hope he hires a real drummer. Other plans include a sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth, as well as two more classical albums and a re-recording of the Gospels. Busy guy. * * * * * * * * * * FROM THE EDITOR =============== Wow, an issue that's not dedicated to Asia news! Just kidding, Asia news is quite welcome. It's good to see some new news coming in. There seems to be conflicting info on when the new album will really materialize. Until we hear something concrete from a reliable source, please remember that all the rumors are just that. Still hope springs eternal. No news on the interview yet, I've made several return calls but response has not been forthcoming. If you looked at the header at the beginning you saw that I'm still using the nfte@matsci2.uncwil address. As a workaround to the problems this caused last time around, I shut this alias down until I'm ready to send out a NFTE issue. Even then it's only active for a day to allow Notes to get out. Please don't send anything to that address. It will make me a happy editor and prove that some of you really read what I write here. ;-) This issue we reached a milestone 60th issue! Hard to believe we've been around for almost 2 1/2 years. Hope we'll make it another 2 1/2.
